| Short description | Israel is a fascinating country with a unique history. It is also one of the oldest and the youngest countries in the world. For almost three thousand years met a lot of things this country - he was strong and powerful, he was occupied, and passed from hand to hand, and for a long time it was not even on the map. But thanks to today's Israel, utterly delightful various phenomena of nature, monuments and the many cultures which is the cradle of modern civilization attracts. | Access to sea and mountains | Israel is located in Western Asia, on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. Israel is a country-mountainous upland, where you can distinguish four regions: coastal belt, central belt of hills, the Jordan Valley and Negev Desert. A narrow strip of Mediterranean coastline stretches from the border with Lebanon in the north to Gaza in the south. In the northern part of the coast is varied Haifa Bay, located at the foot of Mount Caramel. To the south stretches a belt of lowland plains Sharon. On the east coast extends to the central upland, mountainous region of the country. In the north of this region are mountains and hills of Lower and Upper Galilee. Galilee is the most famous peaks: Meron (1 208 m) and Tabor (575 m). The local valley stretching from west to east, the largest are: Jezreel Valley. To the east of Galilee, the Golan Heights are. To the south stretches from Galilee hills of Samaria with a number of narrow valleys. The height of the hills reach up to 800 m above sea level. Samaria shall pass to the south, in Judea, where the northern tip is the city of Jerusalem. In the south Negev desert occupies about 50% of the country (12 000 km2). To the east of the central massif is a tectonic ditch the Jordan Valley, which runs Israel's largest river - the Jordan (length 322 km). Sources of the Jordan River are located in the north, on the slopes of Israel's highest peak, Mount Hermon (2 814 m above sea level). Then the river flows through the Hula Valley and flows into Lake Tiberias. Heading further south, the Jordan River flows graben and ends its course in the Dead Sea. Water table is at the lowest point on the Earth - 408 m below (and still is worse). To the south of the Dead Sea is located in Arava and Gulf of Aqaba (Gulf in the north of the Red Sea). |

Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters. However, Israel's climate is strongly influenced by dry and hot desert climate of the Arabian Peninsula and the Sahara. The southern part of Israel lies in the tropical dry climate zone, which is characterized by scarce rainfall and high temperatures and their amplitudes.
Average temperatures in January of 1914 to 1916 C, in August 1928 to 1933 C. Winter in the highlands average daily values decrease to 10 ° C. Frost may occur. The average annual rainfall of 600-800 mm in the north to less than 50 mm in the south. Air temperatures vary depending on the height above sea level. Also, the distance from the sea is not affected. So the Israeli coast is characterized by relatively mild temperature fluctuations without exceeding 35oC heat.
Characteristic feature of Israel's climate is dry in the south of the country, and the strong, dry winds blowing from the east khamsin spring and autumn. The other events include winter heavy rains, sometimes causing local flooding, and sporadic snowfall, which have min. in Jerusalem.

Israeli culture is heterogeneous, dynamic, and very difficult to define. A significant part of secular cultural associations is located in the area of Tel Aviv, despite the fact that most of the official state cultural institutions are located in Jerusalem.
Cultural diversity stems from the fact that the people of Israel come from five continents and over 100 different countries. That's why we are here blended cultures around the world and all the subcultures (eg. Arabs, Druze, the Russians, Falaszowie and others) are free to develop their own culture. Israel's culture is unique in its richness and diversity.
In recent years, the Israeli government is increasingly funding culture. The volume of state funding of culture is lower than the average in Western countries. Despite this, the state continues to support the activities of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, which performs with concerts around the world, giving performances in the Israeli radio and television. Local authorities support the existence of many small orchestras, the musicians are mostly immigrants from the former USSR. Israel is well known in the world of modern dance.
Israelis are lit readers. Israeli newspapers have an average daily circulation of about 600 000 copies. The main newspapers are published in Hebrew, Arabic, English and Russian. Others come in French, Polish, Yiddish, Russian, Hungarian and German.
Artists' colonies exist in Safed, Jaffa, and Ein Hod. In most cities operate popular art galleries and museums.
